The Lake Katherine Nature Center & Botanic Gardens Board of Directors is seeking donors for a new capital campaign.
We are proud to announce plans to construct the Mayor Robert Straz Boat House and Boardwalk. The jewel of the southwest suburbs, Lake Katherine, continues to attract thousands of visitors every year to its lush forested trails, prairies, wetlands and gardens which serve as a welcoming environment for the hundreds of plant, bird and animal species that pass through and thrive in our area.
The project will involve a new equipment and canoe/kayak storage facility adjacent to a docking pier that will extend into the center of the east end of the lake, terminating in an observation area with seating and space to enjoy the wonders of Lake Katherine from a new and unique perspective. It will provide better accessibility to the kayaks and create novel educational opportunities to explore the natural world around us. This will be the first of what we hope to be many exciting developments at our nature center.
After over 20 years of dedicated service to our great city, Mayor Straz has graciously accepted this honor and pledged his support toward seeing it through to fruition.
To achieve our goal, we need your financial support. The estimated cost will be $100,000. We are kicking off our campaign with a year-end appeal asking you to contribute to this worthwhile cause right here in your own backyard. We are excited to announce that several anonymous donors have already generously contributed over $50,000!.....Halfway there!
Please consider helping us achieve our goal of making Lake Katherine a shining example of “connecting people with nature.”
Thank you for your support.
